The contract entailed the construction of a new build block that provides four classrooms over two floors. We also demolished and cleared existing pre-fab classrooms.
The works included traditional strip foundations and a pre-cast concrete beam and block ground floor construction. The main structure was a timber frame, fabricated by Allwood Timber in Devon.
The installation of a standing seam copper roof allowed the building to be in the dry after 14 weeks. Composite timber and aluminium windows, provided by Rationel, were installed.
The fit out included many standard robust details and WC arrangements. A disabled lift was also incorporated.
Overall the project provided 320m² floor area. It was completed on time and to budget, despite poor ground conditions and bad weather, allowing occupation by the school for the autumn term.
