The contract entailed the completion of the second phase of a new build extension, linking a Victorian administration building to a 1980s classroom block at differing ground levels.
The works included curved flank face brickwork, a steelwork primary structure and Bison plank flooring to the new second floor.
The roof structure is extremely lightweight. It incorporates load bearing timber stud work and long-span Kerto timber joists that provide the basis for a three degree pitched ‘flat’ roof with Sarnafil membrane covering.
A combination of powder-coated aluminium curtain walling and windows provide the external envelope at the second floor.
Other aspects include a curved cantilevered steel and toughened glass staircase rising from ground to second floor level, with a feature circular roof light over. Also, a terrace area was provided at the second floor. It is enclosed with a steel/glass balustrade.
Overall the project was approximately 800m² floor area. It provides 10 classrooms and a large art room.
A very technical project was completed on time and to budget, allowing occupation by the school for the new autumn term.
